A Honda that will not answer its fob is not a tow job. The truck carries Honda blanks, chipped transponder keys and smart-entry fobs alongside a full cutting machine, so we code a working Honda key to your car where it sits: a Lower Lonsdale strata parkade, the Lonsdale Quay lot, a driveway up the hill.
A Honda key stops working for more than one reason: a flat coin cell, a chip that has stopped answering the immobiliser, a blade worn round after years in the same ignition, or no key left at all. Which one it is decides the visit, so we establish that at the vehicle before anything is cut or charged for.
Parking structures are a regular starting point for a Honda call. The Lonsdale Quay parkade, the Lynn Valley Centre parkade, the Park Royal structure over the bridge: all places where an owner walks back to a Honda that has stopped recognising them. That changes the call before we start it. Tell the dispatcher which entry and which level you are near, and whether the building needs a visitor buzzer before a van can park, because turning up outside a locked lobby with the right fob helps nobody.
| Honda key type | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Mechanical / valet blade cut (no chip) | $30–$70 |
| Transponder key (chip only) | $110–$200 |
| Remote head key (chip + remote combined) | $150–$280 |
| Flip / switchblade key with remote | $140–$260 |
| Smart entry / push-to-start fob | $200–$400 |
| All-keys-lost service (erase + re-enrol) | $240–$480 |
Each figure covers the key or fob, the cut and the programming. A base Civic transponder sits at the bottom of its band, a loaded push-to-start Pilot or Odyssey near the top, and all-keys-lost carries the immobiliser reset on top of the key itself. We settle on the number by phone once we have year, trim and VIN, and anything that would move it (an after-hours call, or a car that turns out to be something the phone call could not have described) is said on that call rather than at the car.
Honda changes key type by trim inside a single model year, so a Civic LX and a Civic Touring do not always take the same fob. Those three details decide which blank and which tool go on the truck before it leaves.
A strata garage off Esplanade, a driveway on Larson Road, the Capilano Park & Ride at the Highway 1 interchange where a fob has sat flat all day. Give us the address, the level if there is one, and say if a gate wants a buzzer code.
The blade is cut to your Honda's code, the chip is married to the immobiliser, the remote and the walk-up sensors are synced, then start, lock, unlock and trunk are each tested before we pack up. A spare cut in the same visit costs far less than a second call-out.
The dealer route has one step ours does not: the Honda has to get there. A car that will not start goes on a flatbed, and a flatbed is simple from a driveway and awkward from the second level of a strata parkade or the end of a British Properties cul-de-sac. After that the fob has to be ordered in, with dealer-rate programming labour on top. Honda's immobiliser works with aftermarket diagnostic gear, so we bring the fob and the programmer to the car instead. The exception is a very new model still inside a manufacturer key-security window, and we say so before you book rather than after we arrive.
The Lonsdale Quay parkade is one of our regular addresses. People leave a Honda there, take the SeaBus over, and come back at the end of the day to a fob that will not open anything. Parking around the Quay is tight, worse along Esplanade at a weekend, so tell us where the car actually sits and stay near it for a call as we come up Lonsdale.
Drivers at the Capilano Park & Ride swap between a car and transit twice a day, which is exactly the routine that leaves a Honda fob in a coat pocket at the office or flattens its cell sitting out in the cold.
Weekends move the work up the hill and out east. The Capilano Suspension Bridge lot is somewhere we cut and pair keys at the vehicle, and the Quarry Rock trailhead off Panorama Drive is a common spot for calls on a busy Saturday. Two things help at either: call ahead so the blank is confirmed on the truck before it leaves, and have registration or insurance with your ID at the car, because ownership is verified before anyone touches a Honda immobiliser. The ski-area lots at the top of Mount Seymour Parkway are a longer run than a Lonsdale address, and we say that on the phone instead of quoting you the same window.
Coverage is the whole North Shore, both municipalities. Lonsdale from the Quay up toward Montroyal, then Lynn Valley, Lynnmour, Seymour and Deep Cove on the east side, Capilano, Norgate, Pemberton Heights and Edgemont Village on the west, and over the bridge through Ambleside, Dundarave, Caulfeild and out to Horseshoe Bay. On the upper Caulfeild streets and in the British Properties the final approach is the part a map gets wrong, so give the dispatcher a nearest cross street and the arrival stops being a hunt.
We carry blanks and tooling for the other badges on North Shore driveways too, and the visit runs the same way.
