Automotive Locksmith North Vancouver

North Vancouver · BC
Car locked.We're rolling.

Fast Locksmith North Vancouver handles every automotive locksmith job — from a car lockout on the Lonsdale slopes to a lost transponder key in Deep Cove. Mobile to your car, not a shop you have to tow to.

► 01 / Automotive

Your car, sorted on-site.

We come to you — parking lot, trailhead, ferry terminal, or your own driveway. No tow required.

Being locked out of your car on North Vancouver's North Shore — especially in winter or after a long hike at Mount Seymour — is genuinely stressful. We operate a fully equipped mobile unit with the key-cutting and programming tools needed to solve the job on the spot. Whether you've locked your keys inside, broken a key in the ignition, lost every copy of a transponder key, or your remote fob has stopped communicating with the car, we can typically fix it without touching a tow truck.

What's included in our automotive service

  • Car lockout — slim-jim, air-wedge, and non-destructive entry for all door types
  • Transponder key cutting and on-site programming (most domestic and import models)
  • Smart/proximity key fob programming and battery replacement
  • Broken key extraction from locks and ignition cylinders
  • Ignition repair and cylinder replacement
  • Duplicate car key cutting (laser-cut high-security and standard)
  • Trunk lockout and release
  • All-keys-lost scenarios with full key generation from scratch

Typical price ranges

Automotive work varies by vehicle make, key type, and whether programming is required. Below are honest ranges — you'll get a firm quote on the phone before we roll.

How it works

01

Call or book

Ring 778-262-1107 or submit a booking. Tell us your make, model, year, and where you are on the North Shore. We confirm the service and give you a price range right then.

02

Tech rolls to your location

A licensed technician in a marked mobile unit heads to you — no dealership, no tow. Average North Vancouver response is around 18 minutes depending on traffic and location (Deep Cove and Mount Seymour may take a few minutes longer).

03

Job done at the car

We carry key-cutting machines and programming interfaces on board. Most jobs — lockouts, standard transponder keys, fob programming — are completed without moving your vehicle. We confirm it works before we leave.

Car lockouts on the North Shore — what we see

North Vancouver and West Vancouver have a handful of automotive lockout patterns we handle regularly. Trailhead parking lots at Seymour, Grouse Mountain, and Lynn Headwaters are common call spots in spring and summer — hikers leave keys in the car with every intention of "just a short walk," and the door locks behind them. The SeaBus terminal at Lonsdale Quay is another busy spot; commuters rushing to catch the last boat sometimes lock in bags and keys at once.

Newer vehicles — especially those with push-to-start systems and no physical key slot — require programming equipment to create a new credential from scratch. The dealership can do this, but their lead time is often days; we carry the same OBD and diagnostic gear in the truck and can often complete the work the same afternoon. If your vehicle uses an aftermarket anti-theft system that complicates standard programming, we'll tell you upfront what's possible and what isn't.

Transponder and smart keys: what the numbers mean

If you're wondering why a car key costs more than a house key, the answer is the chip. Modern transponder keys carry a coded microchip that must be matched to your car's immobiliser — without the matching signal, the engine won't start even with a perfectly cut blade. Smart/proximity keys go further, broadcasting a rolling code that the car reads passively. Programming both types requires vehicle-specific software and sometimes a pincode pulled from the car's ECU. We carry databases and interfaces for the majority of makes sold in Canada, including Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Hyundai, Kia, and most European models. For rare or exotic vehicles, we'll advise you honestly if a dealership visit is genuinely needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make a key if I have zero copies?

Yes, in most cases. "All-keys-lost" is a standard automotive locksmith job. We can decode the lock cylinder mechanically or pull the key code from the vehicle's BCM/ECU (depending on make) to cut and program a new key from scratch. This takes longer than duplicating an existing key and costs more — see the range table above — but it avoids a tow and often beats the dealership's turnaround.

Will you damage my car door to get in?

No. We use non-destructive entry methods — air wedges, long-reach tools, or slim-jim tools appropriate to your vehicle type. Newer cars with soft door seals and frameless windows need a slightly different technique, but the goal is always zero damage. If for any reason a situation genuinely risks damage (very rare), we'll explain your options before touching anything.

My fob works but the car still won't start — can you help?

Possibly. If the fob communicates but the engine won't crank, the issue could be the transponder chip inside a worn physical key, a failing ignition cylinder, or an immobiliser fault. We can diagnose on-site. If the problem is the key, we can cut and program a replacement. If it's an ignition or electrical fault beyond our scope, we'll tell you clearly so you're not paying us to chase a red herring.

How long does transponder key programming take on-site?

For a single key on a common make, typically 20–45 minutes once the technician is at the vehicle. All-keys-lost jobs that require pulling a PIN from the ECU can take 45–90 minutes. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when you call with the make and model.

Do you carry keys for European cars?

We carry programming interfaces and blank keys for most BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, and Volvo models. Some older or specialised European vehicles have proprietary systems that require dealer tokens — we'll flag that on the call if it applies to your car so there are no surprises when we arrive.

Is your quote on the phone binding?

We quote a firm range on the phone based on the service and vehicle you describe. If on arrival the job is materially different from what you described (e.g., a different key type than you thought, or an aftermarket anti-theft system added by a previous owner), we'll update the quote before starting work. No surprises without your sign-off first.
